Remote Diagnostics Maintenance
Remote Vehicle Diagnostics Makes A Valuable GPS Solution Even Better.

Over twenty years ago, the Federal Government mandated that all computerized vehicles should be self-diagnostic. Every vehicle manufactured in or imported to the U.S. since 1997 has been required to have on board diagnostics (OBD) computers as standard equipment.

The average driver only pays attention to the OBD when he or she is confronted with the dreaded "Check Engine" light. But that light typically appears after a vehicle is experiencing some serious electrical or mechanical issue. By then, a driver can expect to be without a ride and face an expensive repair bill.

Wouldn't it be great if a vehicle could tell you, at the earliest possible moment, that it isn't feeling well so that you can seek help before something really goes wrong?

A FleetBoss GPS Solution gives your vehicles the benefit of such powerful, money-saving remote diagnostics.

How OBD Works

When a vehicle with OBD runs, its on board computer constantly cycles through tests of its various systems and components. If one of these systems or components fails a test, the computer kicks out what is known as a fault or pending fault. The pending fault does not automatically trigger an indicator such as the check engine light. Such visual alerts are activated only when a vehicle problem has failed multiple OBD tests. Multiple OBD test failures generally indicate a serious problem has occurred within a vehicle.

OBD and Fleet Maintenance Management
The average consumer driver can benefit from remote on board diagnostics but it is commercial fleets that receive the biggest financial gains from the use of such technology. Fleet managers and drivers in companies both large or small have realized an average savings of nearly 25 percent in reduced costs due to maintenance management programs using GPS-based remote vehicle diagnostics.* No modern fleet maintenance program can afford to be without this technology.

While today's fleet vehicles are generally more reliable and have more robust components (i.e. platinum spark plugs, longer-life fluids, etc), their complexity is also much greater. An unfortunate side effect of this complexity is that the average repair, when it does occur, tends to have a higher cost and require substantial fleet down time. In order to dodge financial bullets like large repair bills, lost productivity and reduced service calls, a business needs a diagnostic solution like the one FleetBoss provides.

The FleetBoss SERIES 5500™ lets fleet managers identify diagnostic trouble codes and maintenance due issues at their earliest stage. It automatically notifies fleet owners of these issues via email.

SERIES 5500™ features include:

Automated Meter Readings for mileage calculation

Diagnostic Trouble Code Alerts for problem detection

Maintenance Reminders for repair and downtime reduction

No-cost Remote Smog Inspection Program (California Only)

SERIES 5500™ features translate into the following fleet management benefits:

  1. Allows a company to detect serious repair and maintenance issues before they become expensive headaches.
  2. Adds years to the productivity and functionality of your fleet vehicles.
  3. Cuts down on labor costs related to vehicle repairs or lost driver productivity.
  4. Provides real-time operational data for better resource management and decision-making.

Maintenance programs using GPS-based remote vehicle diagnostics are an indispensable fleet resource.
