FEDERAL SIGNAL (FS), founded in 1901, is a manufacturer and worldwide supplier of safety, signaling and communications equipment, fire rescue products, street sweeping and vacuum loader vehicles, refuse truck bodies, high-performance water blasting equipment, parking control equipment, carbide and superhard tipped cutting tools, precision metal stamping punches and components for plastic injection molds.

CHALLENGE: Prompted by customer demands, FS sought to provide a value-added solution that allowed municipalities and contractors to better track vehicle use and effectiveness via satellite technology. They required a solution that would

• provide accurate records for machine activity,
• improve fleet management costs and

SOLUTION: Federal Signal Corporation partnered with FleetBoss to develop FleetMinder—the first system to incorporate fully-automated GPS and mapping capabilities to monitor and record sweeping system components and their functions.

This innovative FleetBoss system captures time and location of all sweeping events and can even track where each debris load is ultimately dumped.

FleetMinder is available as a standard factory option on any of FS's complete line of Leach and Wittke refuse vehicles, Vactor sewer cleaners, Elgin street sweepers and Guzzler vacuum loaders. Previously manufactured equipment can be retrofitted with the FleetMinder system. Federal Signal pre-installs the FleetMinder GPS solution powered by FleetBoss at their Elgin, Vactor, Guzzler, Leach and Wittke divisions. These embedded GPS solutions permit end user clients to accurately monitor vehicle routes, confirm performance of equipment and improve overall efficiency and productivity.
